Skeleton Knight WIP

Progress is slow on this one, but I thought it went quite nicely with the little axe guy I'm doing - and I needed a little break from him. So - here's an early WIP.

The leftmost one has no arm, so you can see the abdomen more clearly - I will remove the helmet on this one also to show the head. A face study and more detail on weapon/helmet/arm parts will be arranged around it. I currently have no idea whether to include the horns or not.. (one horn?) they bolt on to the holes either side of the skull/helmet. Actual head is very much lower down and would be looking out through the open jaw or alternatively maybe electronically via the eyes in the skull (silly I know).

I'll probably whack some more texture in there too - but if anyone has any crits feel free to let me know about it.

Axe Soldier

Here's a little mixed up soldier - His armour is similar to some that I sketched at the V+A, then mixed with some other bits and bobs. Giant axe ftw! The original is 4000x4000 in photoshop, but I've resized down so some detail does get a bit lost. This is the second stage work in progress - so I just have to noodle in more details now.

He's got some flaming orange decorative boogers going on.

Monogram + Doodle

Finally figured out a monogram that seems to work. Also played with photoshop settings to get a sketching template - works pretty nicely! Hence all the doodles....

Zbrush Torso study

I'm getting more into Zbrush. If I'm honest, I haven't really read up much on how I'm meant to be doing things in this... So I will most likely have to go back and remodel. This is very much just studying how the clay brushes work in Zbrush 3.5 - It's all just from my head with no ref, so excuse any completely imaginary musculature :)

I'm thinking of adding the previously posted Yakuza head to this. Sculpting a Kimono drape - a set of hands and the kneeling pose. Again, just to practice painting onto the model in Zbrush, so - it's tattoo research time (and swatting up on Zbrush time)!

Zbrush learning

So I installed 3.5 R3 - (Pixelogic Zbrush). It's great fun to play around with. I'm mainly using the claytubes tool to build up layers right now - I'm sure I should get faster at this ... but it's fun nonetheless. So go go pompadour yakuza action!

Mr.Old Robot

Nearly done on this. Probably will leave in monotone... but was tempted to give it a very silly paintjob.

Ms. Fairy Mantisbug is complete

I've got this one practically finished - but as I say that I'm noticing that she has two different knee's and some other bits that could be improved. I'll just edit this post rather than covering my blog with fairies... but here's the completed pic. I'll post some 100% crops tomorrow, but for now, sleep I think.

Mr. Snow Crab #1

So I thought I'd have a go at some creature design - Got momentarily distracted whilst designing a 'burrowing snow crab'. Crabs like sandwiches right? At least... I like crab sandwiches...  anyway, here's the WIP.

Little doodle I was playing with! - now to go finish off this fairy thing.

Fairy Concept 2

Nearly done with this now, I changed the colour quite a bit and put some stronger saturated tones. I added a texture layer (don't know if I'm overusing this paper texture). This one is a bigger image and I've added some alternate head views.

Still need to fiddle some details and draw the feet. Shouldn't take long now. Click to see full size PNG.

Fairy Concept

This grew out of something in the DMC thread at the Apedogs forum. I didn't want to create a traditional 'fairy' character so I thought, why not create something a little bit different. I hope the jaw mandibles communicate how the face would open up - but I'm not sure if that reads.

Here's a WIP from today - I should finish up tomorrow. Click to make it bigger as usual.

Robot rethink

I'm rethinking the robot - realising that rather foolishly I designed it in a very back to front way, some time last week I stopped painting it and decided to go back to the drawing board. Determined to finish this guy at some point - so here are some sketches. As always, click to make it bigger. I think I shall go and do some studies of other things for a bit, I've been avoiding drawing as I'm not enjoying this one too much... (annoying).

Mecha Progress 1

Here is today's progress on the mecha, very fudgy so far but it now has arms! I have to go over this once everything is done and fix the lighting. I've been avoiding thinking about the legs, but should get right onto that now.

Mecha WIP 1

I thought I'd hack out a new robot design, so here is the initial WIP. I still think this design is slightly funky (not the good kind), he'd kind of waddle in a comical way with his current back legs, so I'll most likely redo them. Plenty of room to play around still though - I'm making an exploded side view (this one) with the leg and arm parts to be layered on top and I'll probably do a few other detail shots in each other perspective.

3D famicom

Started learning some 3D and pixelart so I thought this would be a good tryout. Moved country again so apologies for a lack in updates. 96 triangles
